Atlas oversaw the work performed on various tasks for multiple sidewalk and ADA improvements throughout the City as a subconsultant to MWM Design Group. The projects included work in residential areas, University of Texas campus areas, as well as Critical Arterial corridors.

Specific projects include the Boggy Creek Trail Connection at Pedernales and the Ramos Street improvements. For these locations, Atlas provided preconstruction documentation, construction progress reports, and post construction photos of the site to document site conditions, construction progress and final work product of the completed sidewalk improvements.

Expansion of 183 South from Highway 290 on the north to Highway 71 on the South, adding tolled and general- purpose lanes, including relocation of 18 miles of water and wastewater lines. Atlas Design Services managed the packaging, scheduling, fast-track design and City permitting for eighteen miles of water and wastewater utility relocations, divided into twenty distinct constructions, and permitting packages. Atlas also reviewed construction phase submittals for utility work and managed the constructability reviews. Atlas managed design, QA/QC, and site plan permitting including review of temporary traffic control plans and submittal to AULCC and ROWMAN for contractors TURP permits on the portions of work within City ROW and easements. Atlas coordinated with the assigned GEC for approvals in the TXDOT ROW. Atlas also designed 8″ and 24″ water lines within packages 14 and 20 located inside TXDOT ROW. Sponsor agencies included TxDOT, CTRMA, and the COA.

a) Atlas Design served as the prepared the design for the large diameter water line replacement project. The project included over 1,000 LF of 24” diameter water main design along with the associated traffic control design for the project adjacent to Levander Loop in east Austin.

b) Atlas served as the project principal, design engineer, project manager, and drafter for the large diameter water line replacement project. The project included approximately 200 LF of 24” diameter water main design along with the associated traffic control design for the project on Old Bastrop Highway in southeast Austin.

Atlas served as both Project Engineer and Project Manager for a series of contracts for ADA Sidewalk and Ramp Improvements in the City of Austin. The initial project was for $500,000 and included Group 6. The contract was subsequently expanded for another $500,00 and included Groups 5, 7, and 8. In addition, Mr, Slauson served the same function for two additional Sidewalk and Ramp Improvement contracts in 2011 and 2014.

During construction, and as required for individual sites, Atlas provided and approved specific engineering design in the field. The project included both removal and replacement of damaged sidewalk and installation of new ADA compliant sidewalks. He coordinated construction with businesses and homeowners, COA Watershed Protection, and Right of Way Management. He provided traffic controls and permit documents as needed to construct individual projects.

During the life of these contracts, Atlas was requested to provide several special designs to address site specific issues, including shared use paths, retaining walls, special drainage features, bridges, and full depth pavement repair.

Atlas provided Temporary Traffic Control Plan (TTCP) design for multiple locations throughout the City as a subconsultant to MWM Design Group while working closely with the sidewalk contractor. Completion of sidewalks at these locations was vital to removing physical barriers and encouraging walking as a mode of transportation and improving mobility for people with disabilities. Atlas also performed pre- and postconstruction as well as progress report documentation for various projects throughout the City. In total, Atlas participated in more than 5,000 linear feet of sidewalk projects as part of the 2017 Local Mobility Field Engineering for Pedestrian, Bikeway and Urban Trail Rotation List.

The Manor Rd & Loyola Lane intersection sidewalk and ramp improvements in East Austin presented several challenges. The presence of existing bike lanes created the need to safely merge the bicycle traffic with the adjacent travel lanes in order to create the work space needed by the contractor. Pedestrian handling was also a significant challenge at this site. The fact that the work was taking place at an intersection to add or replace substandard curb ramps created pedestrian specific design challenges. Because there were no adjacent crosswalks near the project, the standard COA sidewalk closure detail was not applicable in this situation. Therefore, Atlas designed special pedestrian handling plans to maintain an accessible path throughout construction. Atlas designed, submitted, and gained ROWMAN approval of the TCP in seven (7) business days.
